5 Tips for COVID-19 Wedding Planning

I’ve compiled a few tips from a number of different blogs that I have read, and some of my own thoughts, over the last 2 weeks.

  1. Breathe.  You will get through this.  You’ve spent a lot of time, and money, planning the best day ever.  Your wedding may be on a different date or look a little different than you originally planned, but it will go on.  And it will be AWESOME!

  2. Postpone, don’t cancel.  There is a lot of fear and anxiety out there right now.  All of it is real and understandable. But it’s not a reason to panic.  A legitimate reaction might be to try and reclaim any money that you’ve invested this far, or not make your final payment.  Your wedding vendor (should) already have a plan in place if you need to postpone your date. When you originally booked, you were excited to work with them and they were excited to be able to work with you.  Remember that excitement and feel confident that it will return.

  3. Communicate.  Reach out to your wedding vendors as soon as possible, even if you haven’t made any firm decisions.  Even if you’re wedding is this summer or later, it’s not a bad idea to talk through things. They will walk you through all of the decisions that need to be made specific to their industry.  They have connected with an endless number of fellow vendors and others in the wedding industry. Don’t be afraid to videochat either. They want to see your faces.

  4. Keep planning.  If you are in the beginning stages of your wedding planning, keep going!  Many wedding venues are doing virtual tours. Reach out to must-have vendors. I know for a fact that they will love to hear from you.  Keep this in mind. Hundreds of weddings from April, May, June, and beyond are being rescheduled into the fall, winter, and 2021. If you have a dream date or dream venue in mind, know that those dates will have a premium on them.  2021 will likely have a surge of weddings, so book now. Just make sure that contractual terms are clearly laid out.

  5. Get help.  If you haven’t already hired a wedding planner, consider doing so.  A good wedding planner will help you walk through this period of uncertainty with confidence and hope.  They are tied into everything that is going on and are up-to-date on all of the things you should be doing or could be doing right now.
